Founded by public figure Kavita Khanna the Kavita and Vinod Khanna Foundation is dedicated to carry forward the remarkable legacy of social work created by her husband, the late Vinod Khanna, legendary actor and four-time Member of India’s Parliament.
KVKF founder Kavita Khanna personally knows the vast benefits of sports: sportsmanship, peer support and mentorship, reductions in stress and anxiety, elevated self-esteem, a healthy lifestyle and enhanced concentration.
Kavita was passionate about sports from a tender age. At 7, in the Maharashtra State Championship’s under-eight freestyle swim, she reportedly set a national record that stood for 26 years. A winner of the gymnastics prize in middle school and School Swimming Captain, sports and exercise are an integral part of her life. She thus is focused on access to sports for each child, especially as it is a powerful deterrent against drug use and addictions among the youth.
In an effort to bring these benefits to the children of Punjab, the Foundation, in collaboration with the Roundglass Foundation and The Art of Living, has embarked on an ambitious project to promote physical activities among children, through daily coaching at the village level, in each village of Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency.
Location: over 60 villages across Gurdaspur and counting
Participants: Boys and girls
Structure: Each village has professionally trained volunteers, supervised by professionally trained Level D/E coaches, who conduct daily coaching
Tools for Success: Provision of all the necessary sports gear. Each girl receives her own football for independent practice
KVKF’s immediate goal is to expand this program to encompass all villages within the Lok Sabha constituency of Gurdaspur, once represented by Vinod ji. The foundation also plans to enrich its offerings by incorporating volleyball and kabaddi, aiming for comprehensive sports outcomes for the participating children.
Through these efforts, KVKF aims to foster a culture of sports in rural Punjab, ensuring the physical and mental well-being of its youth and paving the way for a healthier, more vibrant community.
